What to expect at your visits
- On your first visit please arrive 5 to 10 minutes before your appointment time.
- You will be greeted by a receptionist, who will take some general information from you. Then the osteopath will take a detailed medical history which will include information about your current problem, any previous medical problems and questions about general health and lifestyle. If you have any x-rays, scans, blood tests or are on any medication, please bring them with you.
- We then perform a thorough physical examination, including a postural assessment, orthopaedic, neurological and medical tests. This may involve undressing to your underwear, to enable us to examine the area properly and see how your body moves.
- It is advised to wear comfortable clothing and modest underwear. You may wish to bring a pair of shorts or tracksuit with you.
- You are welcome to bring a friend or relative with you.
- If you are 16 or under, you need to bring an adult with you.
- Before treatment begins we will discuss your examination findings, diagnosis and your personalised osteopathic treatment plan.
- Should any further investigations be required e.g. X-rays, blood tests, scans etc. the osteopath will inform you and recommend the appropriate course of action.
- If appropriate and with your permission, the osteopathic treatment will begin.
- Please feel free to ask questions, or ask to stop at any time.
- Osteopathic treatment for each individual will vary but often includes massage, gentle rhythmic stretching of the muscles and joints and manipulation of the joints, which can produce a clicking noise. This is the same noise you hear as when you click your knuckles.
- Treatment should generally be quite relaxing. If you have any questions, comments or concerns you should always feel free to talk to the osteopath.
